We want your memories!

As part of an ongoing project, the Heanor & District Local History Society wants to hear from YOU.

We would like to establish a collection of people’s memories about the area – from any period, and from any part of the district. And ANY subject – whether home life, work life, shopping, leisure. It doesn’t matter how trivial you may think your reminiscences are, they will help form part of a much bigger picture, which we can use to assist our future research, publications and newsletters.

This is nothing new of course; we have always asked for this from our members, but we have now decided to use this method to try to prompt people by asking specific questions. And we would like those who interact with us via the internet to take part too, as long as they have memories of the Heanor area.

Every couple of meetings or so, we distribute a new questionnaire to members on a different topic, and with a number of specific questions to hopefully get people’s memories going. There is no deadline. You don’t have to take part in all, or any, of the topics. Likewise, you don’t have to be a member to take part – all that we ask is that it is something to do with the Heanor area, or which involved Heanor people. If you can think of someone else who may like to help, please feel free to print a copy of the form out and get them to fill it in for us.

The results of these questionnaires depend entirely on how much information is returned. We might manage a short piece in a future newsletter, your detail might help on a future webpage, or we might end up publishing a new book on the strength of readers’ comments!

Each questionnaire is published in two different formats – either Microsoft Word or as a pdf file. If you can use the Microsoft Word file, just download it, fill it in, then email it back to us. If you’re not able to do this, download the pdf file instead and send us a free-text email following the format of the questionnaire.

Alternatively, send us whatever memories you have in whatever format you choose –everything is welcome!

We look forward to reading your comments.
