The Changing Face of Langley Mill & Aldercar
Our newest publication (April 2016)
In 1983, the Heanor and District Local History Society published a small volume entitled “Heanor Then and Now”. It was popular and sold out fairly quickly, and has never been reprinted. But if you were to look at it now, you would in many cases not be able to see any “now” – after 30 years, they are all “then” pictures. And it is that fact which has given rise to this our latest series of publications. Using the same principle as before, we have taken a collection of old photographs and, wherever possible, stood in the same location as the original photographer to take a modern picture. All of the modern photographs date from 2016, and were taken over just a few weeks. There is little doubt that in another 30 years most of these pictures will no longer be valid – they present, quite literally, a snap-shot of parts of Langley Mill at a given time. But all will change again!
This is the second in what we hope will be a series of books, each one covering a separate part of the area covered by the Society. As with the first, The Changing Face of Heanor Town Centre, it is in an A4 format, and is in full colour. The text has been prepared by our webmaster/treasurer, Robert Mee.
At just £6.00, Then and Now 2 is a perfect gift for anyone who knows Langley Mill, or who knew it in the past.
The book can be purchased locally, as well as at meetings of the Society, or you can order it directly from this site.
