Heanor & District Local History Society

Joining the Heanor and District Local History Society is not costly - we're not here to make a profit!

The more members we have, the greater the opportunity to preserve our past and our heritage for future generations, and the more influence we have as a campaigning body.

Membership

By joining, you are supporting the society’s efforts to record the past and to share that knowledge with a wider audience.

Membership allows you free entry to our meetings, and organised trips are usually offered at a reduced price to members compared to non-members.

And you receive a copy of the Society’s newsletter which is published nine times a year (September to May).

Membership runs from September each year - members joining later in the year will be given the whole year’s newsletters.

Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday each month, and we normally have between 50 and 100 people in the audience (our record is 180!)

The format is usually for a short address from the chairman, followed by a presentation (normally illustrated) on a local history topic - we are usually finished by 9pm, though occasionally meetings can last a little longer.

Non-members are always welcome, and we do not charge an admission fee. However, we would invite non-members to make a donation, and we also hold a monthly raffle.

There is always a display of old newsletters available, and often displays of other items.

We pride ourselves on having the lowest membership fees of any local history society in the area - our aim is simply to get as many people as possible coming to our meetings and taking an interest in the area’s heritage.

You can join at any meeting of the Society (see the Programme for details).

For those who live away from the area, we offer postal membership, and send you the monthly newsletters, either as they come out, or in two batches a year. Unfortunately, the cost of postal membership is predominantly determined by postal costs.

We also offer our newsletters by email, sent out on the day of the monthly meeting.

Postal Membership

We regret that we can no longer offer postal membership overseas - postage charges are simply too exorbitant. But you can still get it all by email.

For postal or email membership, subscriptions should be sent to the Treasurer (details available if you contact us) along with a cheque (drawn on a British bank), or you can use Paypal (below). For ordinary membership, please join at one of our meetings - we take cash, cheques or card payments.
